Champagne Grand Brut is the historic jewel of the Perrier-Jouët house, the first Brut created by the prestigious Maison in its search for perfection and absolute refinement. In fact, it was born in 1856 from the noble intuition of reducing the quantity of sugar in the dosage to better perceive the elegance of the cuvée and thus win over English customers, differentiating itself from other Champagne labels, at that time anchored to the old and standardized flavours. The Champagne Grand Brut Perrier Jouët comes from a blend made up of 40% Pinot Noir, another 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir grapes, which give the final sparkling wine structure and vinosity, come from the Grand and Premier Crus of Mailly, Versy, Aÿ and Rilly-la-Montagne. Those of Pinot Meunier, with fruity and seductive aromas, from the terroirs of Dizy, Damery, Venteuil, Vincelles and Vinay. Chardonnay, on the other hand, with its fresh and mineral character, comes from the Grand Crus of Cramant, Avize, Les Mesnil and Chouilly. To achieve perfection, the cuvée is then composed mostly of wines produced in the current year and just over 10% of reserve wines from previous years. The refermentation in the bottle with the Champenoise Method is followed by a long period of refinement: 3 years in the historic chalk cellars of the Maison which extend underground at the Avenue de Champagne, in Epernay.
