Mattia Garon’s journey began at just 16, when the head maitre d’hotel at his hospitality school introduced him to the world of wine. What started with basic lessons quickly turned into an internship in Switzerland, and soon after, Mattia landed on the podium in two consecutive editions of “The Best Italian Junior Sommelier” competition. While still in school, he honed his skills during summer holidays working in hotels and restaurants. London then became a pivotal chapter in his career. Here, Mattia completed his WSET wine studies, passed through the Court of Master Sommeliers, and rose to become Head Sommelier at The Dorchester Hotel, where he also served as wine buyer for multiple departments. After years of traveling, which had shaped him in body and soul, he returned to Italy to work as Director in Michelin starred restaurants. His passion for the wine industry led him to join a team developing cellar management programs, teach in the field of hospitality, and speak at wine tastings. Mattia joined Catawiki's wine team in 2020 and has been an invaluable member ever since. He oversees various auction activities, dedicating his time and effort to guiding both sellers and buyers throughout their journey on Catawiki.
