A distinctive, large dark patinated bronze Japanese lantern 灯籠 (tôrô) comprising five sections.
It features a cone-shaped roof, crowned with an onion-shaped top. The lantern's rotund body is adorned with an openwork flower design and includes a hinged door for accessibility. Lined with paper.
The lantern is supported by a baluster-shaped pillar, elegantly detailed with ribbed rings and embossed patterns that include scrolling foliage, meandering lines, and stylized leaf motifs. It stands on a low, spreading base.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).
