English school (XX) - A dramatic portrait depicts Lilith, the ancient Mesopotamian wind and storm demon.

Here we have a beautiful very large 20th Century English School, oil on canvas. This artwork is based on the 1887 painting by English artist John Collier, who worked in the style of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. This dramatic portrait depicts Lilith, the ancient Mesopotamian wind and storm demon. Fierce and attention grabbing, this elegant work is sure to spark conversation among your family and guests. Collier portrayed Lilith as a golden-haired, porcelain-skinned beautiful nude woman who fondles on her shoulder the head of a serpent, coiled around her body in a passionate embrace.[3] Against the background of a dark, brown-green jungle, stands a naked female figure, whose pale skin and long blond hair falling down her back form a stark contrast with the forest. The head position and gaze of Lilith are turned away from the viewer, concentrating on the snake's head resting on her shoulder. The snake encircles her body in several coils, starting around its closely spaced ankles, past the knee, to her lower abdomen. The painting is signed lower right Masson. A fabulous painting which would grace any wall in your home. In good condition, please view the photographs as part of the description. NOTE THIS PAINTING IS BEING BOUGHT WITHOUT THE FRAME IT WILL BE ROLLED AND POSTED BECAUSE OF ITS SIZE. POSTAGE COSTS WOULD BE A LARGE AMOUNT SO MAKING IT MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE. Postage via DHL or UPS PLEASE NOTE: The winning bidder must provide their National ID Number before this can be posted. This is now required to get your item delivered quickly and efficiently. This is due to another new EU directive. Also there will be extra charges for custom duties. Will be wrapped with due care and attention.
