Byzantine Bronze Reliquary Cross (No Reserve Price)

Byzantine Bronze Reliquary Cross Circa 10th-12th century AD This bronze plaque originates from a reliquary cross, designed to hold relics of religious significance. The outer face of the plaque is adorned with the inscription "MP OV," an abbreviation for "Μήτηρ Θεοῦ" (Meter Theou) meaning "Mother of God" and below it is a depiction of the Mother of Jesus in the orans pose. Orans pose is a symbolic gesture in Christian iconography, where the figure is depicted with uplifted arms in a gesture of prayer or praise.
