Ronald Manullang (1954) - The Annunciation

This painting is the first out of a series of four (4), called The Final Judgement. Ronald Manullang depicted Hitler as a woman to punish him for the horrors he committed during WWII. #1: The Annunciation (this painting) #2: Expecting New Born Child #3: The Fuhrer and Child #4: The Crucifixion I acquired the artwork from Umahseni Gallery in Jakarta in 2011. They were representing Ronald Manullang at the time. This artwork has also been exhibited at Art Stage Singapore in 2011. I have a Certificate of Authenticity from Umahseni which I will hand over to the buyer. The painting's dimensions are: 200cm (height) x 180 cm (length). The artwork is framed, but it could be rolled for shipment, whatever the buyer would consider most convenient. Ronald Manullang is one of Indonesia's most prominent artists. His hyper realist style portrays political and celebrity icons often in comprising arrangements. Most of his work is exquisitely detailed oil on canvas, although at first glance the vivid colours and patterns might lead you to think this was collage. The following text is by Ronald Manullang: "We have often come across statements saying how history cannot be forgotten, and will never even elapse. This often applies to terrible events such as genocide, war crimes or mass murders. However, we rarely read statements about punishments. Many perpetrators of such evil deed are even considered heroes, such as Mao, Stalin, Hirohito and, to some people, Hitler. Having repeatedly read books and seen films as well as pictures about such cruelty, especially about Hitler, I had an idea about a fitting punishment for him. It will be an artistic punishment, the art of expiation, to atone for all the souls that he had taken away, which he would repay with his own soul. The heavens would make him, the man of power, the leader, the Fuhrer of The Third Reich, become a woman, who would get pregnant and carry the foetus that would become the person he had hated most, giving birth to it, breastfeed it and nurture the child with all his love. He would become a mother. He would fulfil his ideal views about the perfect mother with many children. He would even be awarded with the German Mother's Cross of Honour. But this time, the child had not been Aryan." #XXLartworks
