Minichamps - Scale 1/12 - Maserati Tipo 61 Winner of the 1,000 km of Nurburgring 1960 #5

This white Maserati Tipo 61 (winner of the 1,000 km of Nurburgring in 1960) is a die-cast model car that has steering, suspension, wheels, bonnet with engine, boot with spare wheel and doors. It was made by Minichamps in Scale 1:12 (about 28 cm), in limited edition. Only 2,000 specimens produced worldwide. The Maserati Tipo 61, also called “Birdcage”, can be considered one of the most popular racing cars of the early 1960s. This racing car was produced by Maserati from 1959 to 1961 to compete in endurance and hill climb races. It became famous for its intricate tubular space frame chassis, composed of about 200 steel tubes welded together, hence the name “Birdcage”. This construction method provided a lighter and stiffer chassis. None of the other racing cars had such design at that time. Filling the windscreen base into the body, Maserati was able to reduce the impact of the new regulations of Le Mans, such as the need of a high windscreen. A model of excellent workmanship that cannot miss in your collection.
