Great photobook by the famous French Magnum photographer SIGNED by HARRY GRUYAERT. Éditions Textuel, Paris. 2022. Hardcover (as issued). 300x 230 mm. 144 pages. New, mint. From the beaches of Normandy to those of India, Morocco or Egypt, Harry Gruyaert has been recording the subtle chromatic vibrations of the shores of the East and West for nearly 40 years. The threatening skies and their play of shadows underline the dazzlingness of the moment and chance when light floods the space. This “poetic moment” underlies the work of Harry Gruyaert for whom photography allows the conditions of wonder to emerge. Blurred, threatening or limpid skies, play of shadows and alchemy of horizons reveal the obsessions of his gaze. The photographer seeks the dazzlingness of the moment, when light floods and cuts up the space. Fifteen years after the first edition of a series that has become legendary, Harry Gruyaert enriches it with around fifty new images showing the inexhaustible possibilities of poetic wonder; "Born in Belgium in 1941, Harry Gruyaert studied photography and film-making. He made a few films as director of photography for Flemish television before turning to color photographs in his adopted Paris in the early 1960s. By the end of the 1970s he had travelled to the United States, India, Egypt, Japan and Morocco. The latter was a revelation to Gruyaert whose images of the country were later published in two different books. In the early 1970s, while he was living in London, he worked on a series of color television screen shots later to become the TV Shots now part of the Centre Pompidou collections. Around the same period he also photographed his homeland and produced two books, Made in Belgium and Roots." (Magnum website)
