Skira [ed.] - You, me and art, Historicode, In the World & Contemporary Voices - 2017-2019

You, me and art : Artists in the 21st century (2019) As the art world shifts and expands, the position of everyone in its orbit--from viewers to critics and curators to artists themselves--is continuously reinvented and transformed. Though the artist remains at the center of the artistic universe, what it means to be an artist is in constant flux. Setting out to explore this condition, art advisor, collector and journalist Marta Gnyp conducted a series of interviews with artists and their interlocutors; You, Me and Art collects these conversations. Historicode : Scarcity and Supply (2017) Collected papers of the Third Nanjing International Art Festival. Since 2014, the Baijia Lake International Culture Investment Group has established an international art exhibition in Nanjing which has met with much success and has become an important cultural event in China. This ambitious event is not only attracting great crowds and increasing Chinas understanding and openness to the visual arts, but each edition is also actively developing and promoting both Chinese and foreign artists in the international art world scene. In this third edition of the Nanjing International Exhibition, entitled Historicode: Scarcity and Supply , an international team of curators came together to present an enormous variety of talent and art forms from various countries and regions of China, all exploring the problems of globalization and the impact and influence contemporary art can have on our collective perceptions and cultural understanding. In the World: Essays on Contemporary South African Art (2018) In the World presents a collection of essays by Cape Town cultural analyst and art critic Ashraf Jamal focused on 24 South African artists working in painting, photography, sculpture and performance. Aimed at a wide, international audience, the texts reconfigure the national narrative of South African art within a broader African and global context. From identity politics to the boom of "African art" in a global contemporary art market, Jamal explores a variety of issues at the heart of South African art practice. Contemporary Voices from the Asian and Islamic Art Worlds (2018) Over the past twenty years, no other part of the world has undergone as many changes as the Asian and Islamic regions. Since 1997, the London based Asian Art Newspaper has been covering on a monthly basis the world of Asian and Islamic art. Each issue has been featuring an interview with a contemporary artist, providing the reader with the opportunity to discover an artist through his own words and not through the lens of a curator, an art historian or a dealer. The featured illustrations allow the reader to have a clear understanding of what the artist’s practice and vision are about whether dealing with painting, sculpture, installation, photography, performance, video, film or music. Contemporary Voices compiles some of these interviews, covering the Asian and Islamic contemporary art scene, including internationally acclaimed as well as emerging artists.
