The "Toyota Sports 800" was developed based on the "Publica Sports," which was exhibited as a reference model at the "9th All Japan Motor Show" in 1962, and was launched in 1965 (Showa 40). Nicknamed the "Toyota Hachi," this car was widely popular as a full-fledged two-seater sports car.
The overall rounded style of the car was new, and still looks good today, almost 30 years later.
The air-cooled twin-cylinder, twin-carbureted 790 cc engine weighed only 580 kg, and the car's high driving performance made it a favorite in various races.
The "Toyota 2000GT," a legendary sports car that appeared two years later in 1967, is also descended from the "Toyota S800.
