E. F. Knight - Where Three Empires Meet. A Narrative of Recent Travel in Kashmir, Tibet & Adjoining Countries - 1895

A fascinating late 19th Century travelogue volume, in Tibet and Kashmir, with folding map and 54 illustrations Edward Frederick Knight had a varied career as a barrister, journalist and soldier. He managed to produce more than 20 books, a number of which were edited volumes of his despatches as a war correspondent. Where Three Empires Meet is arguably his most interesting work. Knight travelled to Kashmir and through the Himalayas, before arriving at Ladakh and Gilgit. His timing was such to allow for his involvement in the 1891 British campaign againt Hunza and Nagar. Under the command of the Resident, Colonel Algernon Durand, Knight was actually placed in temporary charge of some native troops. Item Description An interesting presentation copy, with an attractive leather binding. The book is beautifully bound, designed and illustrated with 27 full-page plates including frontispiece ‘In Himis Lamasery’, 27 engravings in text, and folding map of Kashmir.
