Item Description This decorated Victorian book is beautifully illustrated with 120 wood engravings and a series of tissue-guarded portraits. The Colour Frontispiece is a Portrait of General Gordon. Published by Frederick Warne and Co., London, c.1890. Publishers’ original dark blue cloth boards with vivid black, gilt and silver inlay design of Britannia and the Lion standing on the North African Shore on front board. Spine similarly decorated with Gordon riding a camel. All page edges gilded and still shiny Book Dimensions: 25 x 18 x 4 cm and Number of Pages: 504 Weight over 1.2 kg unpackaged Condition External covers are marked, with light wear to corners, and edges, and minor rubbing to head and tail of spine. Internally; the book in very good condition. No names or inscriptions. Pages are clean, with light foxing to the margin of few pages. Inner hinges are very good. All pages are tightly held at the gutter and edged in gilt. Text is clean and plates are bright (Please see pictures).
