An unrolled, irregular rectangular thin lead sheet, lightly incised to the obverse with Aramaic scripts and figures with herringbone borders. Portions of the scroll are now missing.
The scripts seen on this piece are possibly an incantation text. Aramaic magical documents in Late Antiquity show many links to Jewish Hekhalot literature, a theurgic magic practice which aimed to unveil the secrets of the heavenly and natural worlds, esoteric meanings of the Torah, and the future of humanity. The writing on scrolls such as this often includes features of Hekhalot texts, such as the use of different names of God. In turn, Hekhalot texts incorporated the writing style of magical incantations and amulets. Some of the early aspects of this literature can be found in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
