Abdullah at-Khadim - Quran. Sultanate India - 1616

This illustrated leaf is from the Holy book scribed by Abdullah at-Khadim in AD1616. It is in fair condition, but has been repaired in the past (see image 6b) and has suffered from some damp which has muted the colours. There are a few small wormholes and traces (see image 6g taken through protective cellophane). The leaf is from Chapter 2 (Al-Baqarah) The Cow, Verse 1, starting, 'This is the Book! There is no doubt about it........ through to verse 6, qualities of the disbelievers. The format is very typical of a Sultanate India Koran of the early period with expansive headings and large script in fine hand. In this case, there are three large headings in Muhaqqaq, dividing the two sections of scripture. Floral patterns in blue top and tail the scripture and each section of scripture has blue and gold book end decorations. This is a rare if faded piece and well worth adding to a collection. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
