Beside a Complete Description of the Whole of Persia, Georgia, Mengrelie, and Other Neighboring Regions. (...) Described by Dr. Olfert Dapper. Published in Amsterdam by Jakob van Meurs in 1672. Folio format (326mm x 228mm). Bound in modern half-leather binding. Modern bracts. Pagination: 379, (5), 184, 43, (1) pp. Presumably the last four leaves are missing at the end. The book contains the following illustrations: - 19 (of 28?) prints on single or double page - 23 of 32 prints in the text Good condition. Spine and covers replaced in 2023. Paper somewhat dirty in places. Some light browning along edges. Various prints with old restorations. Edges somewhat frayed. A page with text loss (see photo) Olfert Dapper (Amsterdam, baptized 6 January 1636 – Amsterdam, buried 29 December 1689) was a Dutch geographer, polyglot and historian. His books about distant lands became world famous in his time. Translations appeared in English, French and German. Though he apparently never left Amsterdam, Dapper produced several finely illustrated volumes describing travels in Asia, Asia Minor, the Middle East, and Africa. Culled from a variety of accounts, his works were very popular, and are especially noteworthy for their excellent illustrations and maps. Bell 1686 Da; Brunet 28341; Graesse 335; Wilson p. 53
