Ancient Roman Silver Ring with Stone Intaglio of Grasshopper Circa 2nd-3rd century AD This silver ring features a flat-section hoop with a raised bezel cell set with a stone intaglio engraved with a depiction of a grasshopper. Roman glyptic art featured a wide range of motifs, including mythological scenes, portraits, animals, and geometric designs. Mythological themes were particularly popular, with images of gods and goddesses, heroes, and mythical creatures frequently depicted. Portraits were another common subject, often featuring likenesses of emperors, aristocrats, and prominent individuals.
