Kashan Glazed Pottery Ewer Circa 12th-13th century AD This lovely stoneware ewer displays a bulbous lower body set upon a ring base. The funnel-shaped neck, with its slightly everted rim, rises gracefully above the body. An arched handle connects the shoulder to the rim. The entire vessel is covered in a thick cream glaze, adorned with intricate brown and blue motifs, except for the base, which remains unglazed. The city of Kashan reached the pinnacle of its ceramic production during the Islamic Golden Age, particularly between the 12th and 14th centuries. Kashan ceramics are characterized by their intricate patterns, often inspired by nature, and the skilled use of turquoise and cobalt glazes.
