A male figure emerges from deep blue, bearing the proportion and stillness of classical sculpture - curling hair, strong features, the particular composure of carved stone. Across his eyes, a cloth is bound tight, the fabric rendered in the same blue through removal, its wrapped layers tracing the contours of the face beneath. VANTA has pulled every detail from a single dark foundation, the blindfold as present and deliberate as the figure it covers.
The removal work defines the fabric’s tension with care - the way it presses against the bridge of the nose, the slight hollow where eyes would be beneath. Represented by S-Gallery and available on Catawiki. What the blindfold withholds becomes the work’s central question. The figure faces forward with the stillness of a monument, sightless and composed, neither distressed nor diminished by what is taken from it.
The large canvas gives this sealed figure room to occupy blue darkness on its own terms. Sight is absent. Presence is not.
