Myyjän antama kuvaus

19th-century Dutch silver snuff box, Schoonhoven 1867
A well-preserved Dutch silver snuff box, produced in Schoonhoven and dated 1867 (year letter H). The piece is of relatively generous size for its type and shows careful hand-finishing throughout.
The lid is decorated with refined engraved ornament and features a central cartouche that remains unengraved — an uncommon detail, as most comparable boxes bear initials. The underside is finished with a subtle linear engraved pattern. The hinged lid closes cleanly and aligns well.
Hallmarks are present and readable:
Dutch lion mark “2” indicating 833/1000 silver
Minerva head with letter “M” for Schoonhoven assay office
Year letter “H” for 1867
Maker’s mark indistinct, struck in several places
The box is in notably good condition for its age, with only minimal surface wear visible on the base.
Specifications
Origin: Netherlands (Schoonhoven)
Date: 1867
Material: Silver (833/1000)
Weight: 31.5 g
Dimensions: 64 × 38 × 20 mm
Condition: Very good, light signs of use consistent with age
A solid and honest example of mid-19th century Dutch silverwork, combining practical use with restrained decorative detail.
