About Catawiki's Model car auction

The first model cars appeared on the market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, at around the same time as modern automobiles, with the earliest examples produced in solid metals such as brass. In the 1920’s, Tin and pressed steel cars, trucks and military vehicles were produced by the German toy company, Bing. The manufacture of die-cast models was introduced in the 1950’s by companies such as Corgi Toys, Dinky Toys and Matchbox. These toys have become highly collectable today, with their characteristically bright colours and packaging. In 2008, a 1930’s red and green Dinky toy truck, bearing the name of a London cycle shop, became one of the most expensive ever, selling at auction for £19,975.

Catawiki’s model car auctions feature well-known brands such as Dinky and Matchbox, and include attractive models in a wide range of styles. Notable lots to have sold in Catawiki’s model car auctions include a collection of Dinky and Corgi toys, which sold for £1,222 and a quarter-size Ferrari F1 Decoration Model, which sold for £822. Whether you wish to sell your treasured childhood models or items from your carefully assembled collection, Catawiki’s model car auctions are the ideal place to sell your special object. Our expert auctioneers supervise our auctions, while our notary officials work to guarantee the validity of bids placed. Once the auction has ended, our secure payment system keeps buyers and sellers satisfied.
