Antique Louis Vuitton cabinet from 1880
The brand Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris. From here, some travel articles were sold to prominent clientele. The brand remained to continuously innovate and manufactured any model case on demand, for famous movie stars, royal houses, nobility and many others. Sometimes people traveled with over 20 cases per person, separate cases for hats, shoes, hanging clothes, clothes to lay down, canes/umbrellas, a typewriter, mobile desk, etc.
The iconic monogram logo stems from 1986 and it's the most recognizable LV logo. This case is covered in the so-called 'rayee' (striped) pattern which was designed around 1870.
This case has the original steel hand grips on both sides and three locks on the front. The middle and largest lock is manufactured in heavy coper and has the inscription 1 Rue Scribe, Paris Louis Vuitton. All copper nails in the case are marked Louis Vuitton. On the inside you find the original label by Louis Vuitton, somewhat damaged but well-readable.
The middle clasp doesn't entirely close 100%. No key.
The bottom is executed in zinc to hold out moisture. There are four steel rollers to easily move the case.
The measurements of the case are 80 x 45 x 32 cm.
