Beautiful and lovely patinated terracotta earthenware Art deco bust (green patinated bronze) on a black marble base depicting a young elegant girl by Auguste Henri Carli (1868-1930). Inspiring sculpture, timelessly beautiful design... Auguste Carli is a French sculptor, who lived between 1868-1930. Auguste Henri Carli was born on 12 July 1868 in Marseille. He is the brother of the sculptor Émile Aldebert (1872-1957). He made numerous large sculptures that can be admired in streets and buildings in Marseille. Auguste Carli won the competition of the School of Fine Arts in Marseille in 1890, which earned him a scholarship to go to the School of Fine Arts in Paris to train in the workshop of Jules Cavelier 1. Around 1910, he established his own studio in Brussels, where many (religious and fantasy) "figurines" were made in both plaster, baked clay and bronze. This expressive bust was made in Belgium, produced in a series for the local market in the early 20th century. An image with a high aesthetic value! Rare and timelessly beautiful. The sculpture is in fine condition with minimal signs of wear (see photos). Signed A. Carli - stamp Made in Belgium - number: 2151. On the underside the original store sticker /label M Rogge Rue st Georges –Gand. Last photo suggests this. Old cityscape on two missing houses, on the Steendam (formerly Rue St Georges) in Ghent from the trade shop Rogge, a shop in earthenware and glassware (faiences-verreries).
