Cavalry or dragoon’s helmet - troop model 1872-1874:
Third-Republic era
Made by GODILLOT company: Alexis Godillot (1816-1893).
Markings on back of helmet: GODILLOT, number 55 (size) under the crest, letters A and another unidentified at the end of the neck rest (see pictures).
Gadroon crest, marmoset, headband with grenade, rosettes adorned with flowers, leather-lined scaled chin straps with brass brim.
Marmoset crest in red horsehair, black horsehair mane, leather lining in good condition, red feather plume.
Please note: The crest is old but quite short and not the original, it is removable, the feather plume looks recent.
With its wooden display stand.
Very lovely helmet in good overall condition
