Magnificent vintage Höchst figurine, creation of the famous Johann Peter Melchior, depicting a horn player - part of the famous collection “Turkish Orchestra”, in excellent to pristine condition. Johann Peter Melchior (8 March 1747 – 13 June 1825) was a German porcelain modeller. He was named Modellmeister at the acclaimed Höchst porcelain factory in 1767, a post he held until 1779. Melchior was a transitional figure between Rococo and Neoclassicism. The Höchster Porzellan-Manufaktur was founded in 1746 on the basis of the privilege granted by the Elector of Mainz, Johann Carl von Ostein. It was established by Johann Christoph Göltz and Adam Friedrich von Löwenfinck. The privilege awarded the firm a monopoly of porcelain production on the territory ruled by Prince Bishops of Mainz. The manufactory was the second-oldest porcelain manufactory in Germany. As the mark of the factory was chosen the Mainz wheel.
