2019 Saxenburg Syrah Select - Stellenbosch - 4 Bottles (0.75L)

Description: The Saxenburg Syrah Select 2019 is an incredible wine, truly worthy of the Saxenburg Syrah Select label. Dark and brooding, the nose is a concentrated medley of fresh dark berries, salty liquorice, oyster shell, and black pepper. The palate is full, but possesses beautiful brightness, with a wonderful lift of fruit on the mid-palate. The mouthfeel is long and lingering, and the tannins are fine, but provide just enough grip to the back of the palate. Winemaking: Sourced from selected parcels within one block that was planted in 2002. Most of the block is south-west facing, with the uppermost section more westerly in aspect. Careful canopy management ensures a balanced and even ripening crop. Different sections were picked and fermented separately in open top fermenters. A combination of 4 punch-downs and pump-overs were done daily for extraction and the wine was left on the skins for two to four weeks after fermentation had completed. The different components were all aged in barrels for 12 months, before a rigorous barrel selection and blending process was followed to blend the final wine. To perfect the blend, about 10% whole-bunch fermented 2020 Shiraz was blended in to provide freshness and grip to the wine. After this, the wine spent a further 12 months in barrel before bottling. Oak maturation: 300-litre French oak barrels (60% new). Gradation: 14,5 %Vol Allergens: contains sulphites Awards: 4 ½ Stars - Platter’s Wine Guide 2024
