Zancanaro was an influential visual artist and intellectual, widely recognized for his strong political commitment and for his style that blended social realism and surrealism. He gained notoriety during the fascist regime for his clandestine caricatures of Benito Mussolini. After the Second World War, he joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti movement.
