Northwest Africa 17755 (NWA 17755) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2024 Jan Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Mitchell Wright purchased multiple stones from Ahmad Aide. Place and date of find, unknown. Petrography: (C. Herd and W. Bannerman, UAb) Optical and microprobe examination of a polished thin section shows PO and POP chondrules, CAIs and AOAs (~5-10 vol%) in a clastic matrix that comprises ~40 vol% of the sample. Average chondrule size 0.8±0.5 mm (n=42). Metal is present within chondrules, whereas the matrix has been extensively oxidized. Geochemistry: (C. Herd, W. Bannerman, and A. Locock, UAb) Data obtained by EMP examination of carbon-coated thin section: no matrix olivine (too altered); chondrule olivine: Fa4.3±6.0 (range 0-31; n=27); chondrule opx: Fs0.7±0.1En97.4±2.1Wo1.9±2.0 (Fs range 0.6-0.8; n=2); chondrule cpx: Fs0.8±0.1En58.2±7.3Wo41±7.4 (n=6).
