Born in Schneidemühl, Germany, he became associated with the Art Informel movement, which emphasized spontaneity, gesture, and emotional expression. After World War II, Schultze played an important role in rebuilding the German avant-garde and co-founded the group “Quadriga” in 1952, promoting abstract painting in Europe. His work is known for its dynamic compositions and textured surfaces, often incorporating unconventional materials. Schultze also created imaginative sculptural forms called “Migofs,” combining painting and sculpture in hybrid, organic creations.
