Armchair - Wood - 子ども用ベントウッドアームチェア

Child’s Bentwood Armchair Central Europe, late 19th century (circa 1880–1895) Steam-bent hardwood armchair with carved backrest and caned seat. Rare late 19th-century child’s armchair executed in the Central European bentwood tradition. The chair combines elegantly steam-bent arms and legs with a solid carved back panel, a notably uncommon feature within this typology. The backrest is finely carved with a winged cherub (putto) surrounded by scrolling foliate ornament, reflecting late Historicist decorative vocabulary with early Jugendstil influence. The quality and depth of the carving suggest skilled handwork rather than purely industrial production. The circular seat retains its original hand-woven cane, showing age-related wear and minor losses consistent with period use. The wood presents a rich, dark patina with visible traces of age and handling. A scarce and visually compelling example of late 19th-century children’s furniture, notable for its combination of bentwood construction and figurative carving. Condition: Overall good condition. Surface wear throughout; minor losses and wear to the cane seat. Structurally stable. Provenance: Located in Palma de Mallorca. From a private family collection, traditionally associated with the family of the Mallorcan painter Barceló.
