Antique Children’s Parasol ca. 1900–1920 - 傘

A refined and highly decorative antique children’s parasol by Arcus, dating to circa 1900–1920. Arcus was a British parasol and umbrella manufacturer active in the late 19th and early 20th century, known for producing well-crafted everyday and decorative pieces. This elegant example features a beautifully polished light-toned wooden shaft and celluloid handle, finished in a rich honey colour with a smooth, glossy surface that highlights the natural grain of the wood. The handle is particularly well-crafted – gently tapered and ergonomically shaped, offering a comfortable grip. It retains its original braided wrist cord with decorative tassel. The lower terminal is especially attractive: finished with a finely detailed carved bone element, decorated with stylised scrolling foliate motifs in relief. The end cap is also ornamented, showing matching carved decoration, giving the piece a refined and cohesive appearance typical of quality early 20th-century craftsmanship. The cream-coloured canopy has developed a soft, warm patina over time, enhancing its authentic period charm. It is fitted with delicate protective tips at the ends of each rib, providing both refinement and preservation of the fabric. The internal structure consists of slender metal ribs and a wooden shaft, consistent with quality craftsmanship of the period. In good antique condition. The fabric shows age-related discolouration and light spotting, consistent with age. Minor surface imperfections to the wood and decorative ivorine terminal. The frame and mechanism remain sound and functional. An elegant collector’s item – ideal for collectors of antique accessories, children’s items, or early 20th-century decorative objects.
