Icon - 聖母子像 - Gilt wood

This splendid icon is a reproduction (print) of the Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist (called Madonna della seggiola), an original 15th-century work by Raphael. It is printed on a wooden support and was created in Florence, Italy, in the mid-20th century. The icon measures 37 x 37 cm. The icon is framed by a finely engraved, pastiglia-decorated, and gilded wooden frame, crafted using ancient gouache techniques by Florentine master gilders. The gold leaf is applied with hot tempera, and the surface is carefully polished and enameled. The work is particularly interesting as an example of typical Florentine craftsmanship for cultural tourism: above all, the frame, richly decorated with punched decorations, scrolls, and floral motifs, is part of the production that spread to Florence in the mid-20th century (circa 1940-1950), produced by local workshops and laboratories for the tourist market and collectors of Italian "art souvenirs." These objects were purchased as valuable souvenirs, often paired with reproductions of Renaissance masterpieces, and today they are highly sought-after and appreciated for classical interiors. The object is in good overall condition, with normal signs of age and wear. It will be carefully packaged and shipped via tracked express courier.
