Tile (6) - 1780年〜1820年 - この犬は吠えません。

A tile tableau consisting of six individual tiles of circa 13x13 cm, laid out within a frame with an outside size of 45,3 x 32,7cm and weight of 2,4kg, depicting a dog with the Flemish title "Deze honden bast niet". The tableau could be a revolutionary statement against the Dutch government who took over Belgium after the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815. The text implying that the dog, a metaphor for the Dutch occupier, is vicious and does not bark but bites without warning. Estimated age: Beginning of the 19th century, possibly earlier. Condition: Some damage to the lower right tiles, otherwise good. Not inspected outside of frame. This lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured mail.
