This impressive pair of rearing horse statues features excellent faux ivory craftsmanship, produced in Italy in the mid-20th century (likely late 1950s to 1970s). They are made of hollow-cast resin. To replicate the characteristic texture and signs of aging of genuine ivory, the surface displays hand-finished carving and veining marks, along with a masterfully applied hand-painted patina. The musculature of the horses, their manes, and the tree trunk bases are beautifully accentuated by these handcrafted details and antiquing. The base of each figure bears the engraved initials "R.B.", indicating an Italian design workshop from that period.
