日本・江戸時代の青と白磁の皿—風景の中の人物—およそ1820年~1860年 - Japan - Edo Period (1600-1868)

Japanese Edo Blue & White Porcelain Dish – Figures in Landscape – c. 1820–1860 Description A Japanese blue and white porcelain dish, decorated in underglaze cobalt with a narrative scene of two figures standing beside a stone stele beneath a pine tree. The composition reflects a distinctly Japanese interpretation of Chinese-inspired landscape themes, with expressive brushwork and a quiet storytelling quality typical of late Edo period domestic wares. The reverse is decorated with flowing vine scrolls, and the foot is neatly finished with a double ring, consistent with Arita kiln production. The porcelain shows a soft tone and light translucency, with minor kiln wear to the foot consistent with age. Japan, late Edo to early Meiji period, circa 1820–1880. Conditions of Sale By placing a bid, the buyer enters into a binding contract and agrees to the following terms: 1. Shipment, Delivery & Transfer of Risk Delivery obligations are fulfilled upon transfer of the lot to a professional carrier for shipment to the address provided through the Catawiki system. Official carrier tracking — including delivery confirmation, delivery attempts, customs notifications, and status updates — constitutes conclusive evidence of shipment and delivery progress. Risk transfers to the buyer upon dispatch. Use of freight forwarders, third-party handlers, consolidation services, or any redirection of the parcel after dispatch constitutes acceptance of delivery. Any loss, delay, or damage occurring after such transfer remains solely the buyer’s responsibility. Claims of non-receipt that contradict carrier tracking will not invalidate the transaction. 2. Customs, Refusal & Failed Delivery All import duties, VAT, customs clearance fees, brokerage charges, and related governmental assessments are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Refusal to accept delivery for any reason — including failure to pay customs duties, failure to collect, or rejection at delivery — constitutes: Voluntary refusal of performance Material breach of contract Immediate termination of the sale in favor of the seller In such cases, the seller reserves the right to: Request full payment release Recover return shipping, storage, administrative fees, and carrier penalties Apply a reasonable restocking fee where permitted Decline any obligation to reship Parcels returned due to refusal, non-payment, failed delivery, or incorrect address remain entirely at the buyer’s risk and expense. 3. Condition & Description All lots are sold “as is” and “as photographed.” Photographs form an integral part of the description and represent the condition at the time of listing. Antique and vintage objects inherently display characteristics such as wear, patina, oxidation, glaze variation, craquelure, firing marks, surface irregularities, minor losses, restorations, and material inconsistencies. These are not defects. The absence of specific condition notes does not imply perfect condition. No warranty is made that any lot is free from restoration, repair, or alteration unless explicitly stated. 4. Attribution & Opinion Statements regarding age, origin, period, maker, or material reflect informed opinion based on experience and research. Such statements are not guarantees or warranties. Differences in expert opinion, market interpretation, or subsequent evaluation do not constitute grounds for cancellation or refund. 5. Packaging & Transport All items are professionally packed with reinforced, multi-layer protection. Once handed to the carrier, transportation is outside the seller’s control. While every effort is made to ensure safe delivery, shipping inherently carries risk. Any damage occurring during transit must be reported immediately to the carrier upon receipt, and all original packaging retained for inspection. 6. Acceptance By bidding, the buyer confirms full understanding and acceptance of these Conditions of Sale.
