茶碗 - Stoneware - Hosshoji-yaki 抹茶ボウル

Item Description This is an authentic Hosshoji-yaki matcha tea bowl (chawan) from the Kaike Kiln, presented in its original signed wooden box (tomobako). The Kaike Kiln was established in 1961 in Kaike, Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, as a branch kiln of the Shoka Kiln, and is recognized as one of the traditional craft kilns of Tottori Prefecture. The bowl displays a beautifully organic wheel-thrown form with a gently flared rim and a compact, well-trimmed foot (kōdai). The exterior glaze transitions across the body in a captivating manner: a crackled (kannyu) pale off-white feldspathic glaze covers the upper portion, blending naturally into a warm, dusty rose and deep aubergine tone across the lower body — a distinctive characteristic of the Kaike Kiln, achieved through the incorporation of white sand from Kaike beach and iron sand from the Hino River estuary into the clay and glazes. The horizontal throwing lines (hikime) encircling the body add rhythmic depth and a handcrafted vitality to the form. The interior is glazed in a soft warm beige with a subtle spiral center mark. The unglazed foot reveals the characteristic terracotta-colored clay, bearing the potter's impressed seal. This piece embodies the wabi aesthetic prized in the Japanese tea ceremony — understated, natural, and quietly beautiful. A confirmed work by a recognized ceramic kiln, this bowl is a testament to the unique regional ceramic tradition of the San'in coast. Size Height: 7.5 cm Width: 14.5 cm Depth: 14.5 cm Weight 274 g Condition The bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs; the surface pin-hole pitting and kiln texture visible throughout are natural characteristics of the firing process and not considered defects. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
