Television 1975-1976 Masao Mochizuki Snap Inc/2001/Japanese/390*378*20/There are scratches, stains, and scuffing on the box. (Included in The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990) Television 1975-1976” is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Masao Mochizuki. Masao Mochizuki was a fourth-year student of the Tokyo College of Photography, which has produced many famous photographers, and was a classmate of Kazumasa Suda, one of Japan's leading photographers. Although he did not have a significant career in the 1970s and 1980s, when Japanese photographers were flourishing worldwide, his solo exhibition of the same name held in 1998 attracted the attention of the photography world, and this book, published in 2001, brought him into the limelight. In this mind-boggling project, he confronted a television set in his darkroom at home from 1975 to 1976 and shot a total of 7,000 shots on 200 plates over a period of two years, using multiple exposures of continuously shot images to create 35 images embedded in a single 6 x 6 cm plate. The images depict historical facts and a mysterious kind of mandala through the world of television, a symbol of the times. This unique collection of works has been the subject of a solo exhibition at a prestigious gallery in New York.
