友禅ビロード(天鵞絨友禅) - 刺繍 - 83 cm - 78 cm - Yuzen Birodo - カットベルベット

Beautiful framed painting of the rare and labor-intensive Yuzen-birodo technique from Japan. Yūzen-birodo or velvet Yuzen is a highly specialized Japanese textile technique developed in 1868 by Kyoto textile merchant Nishimura Sozaemon. It combines the traditional freehand resist-dyeing of Yuzen with cut velvet (birodo), resulting in a three-dimensional, painterly fabric. The velvet is woven on copper wires. The picture is then painted on the velvet and with a sharp knife the velvet is cut along the wire to reproduce the soft shadows. The copper wire is then withdrawn from the velvet (see photos at the end). The item is in good condition. Some decoloring on the carton passe-partout. Photos are part of the description. Provenance: Private Belgian Collection. Collected over decades, ranging from auction acquisitions to estate clearances. The dimensions and weight of this painting exceed standard shipping limits, so pick-up is preferred. However, I am happy to assist with organizing shipment after purchase at the buyer's expense. I can securely pack the items on a pallet or in large, heavy-duty carton boxes. Would you like to receive the professional studio photos after your purchase? Just let me know and I'll send them your way.
