アフリカの短剣/貨幣用ナイフ(木製鞘付き) - Nkundu/Mongo人 - DR Congo (No reserve price)

First part of 20th C. African Short Sword / Currency Knife with Wooden Scabbard - Nkundu / Mongo people - DR Congo Description: An authentic, high-quality traditional short sword (prestige weapon/currency knife) belonging to the Nkundu people, a prominent subgroup of the Mongo ethnic group, originating from the Congo River basin (Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire). This complete archival set includes a heavy, hand-forged steel blade and a unique, geometrically carved wooden scabbard, crafted from a single block of dense tropical hardwood. Technical Details & Materials: Blade: Heavy, hand-forged iron/steel showcasing excellent tribal blacksmithing. The surface features distinct architectural fullers (strengthening ridges) along its center. It is covered in a deep, stable, authentic historical age patina with no signs of contemporary active corrosion. Hilt & Scabbard: Carved from a dark-stained exotic hardwood. The scabbard features a highly distinctive, stylized form characteristic of the Central Congolese region. Dimensions (in scabbard): Height: 47 cm Width: 13 cm Condition Report: The item is in genuine archival/museum condition with beautiful signs of tribal use and age. There is a historic chip/loss on the wide disc-shaped pommel of the hilt. Crucially, the edges of this loss are fully rounded and patinated over, proving the damage occurred long ago during its traditional lifespan and confirming the object's authenticity. No modern chemical interventions or restorations. The wood of the scabbard is excellently preserved with no structural cracks, featuring a fine natural sheen acquired from decades of handling. Historical Context: Weapons of this specific type within the Nkundu society served as vital insignia of prestige and high social status. The solid quality of the blade's forging, its weight, and the genuine age patina clearly distinguish this piece from mass-produced tourist souvenirs. Shipping & Packaging: The items will be carefully wrapped in protective bubble wrap and placed in a sturdy cardboard box to prevent any scratches or structural damage during transit. Shipping via reliable international couriers (e.g., UPS, DHL, or DPD) or registered priority mail, depending on the destination. All shipments are fully tracked and insured for the final auction value. A tracking number will be provided immediately after dispatch.
