Rare copperplate map of Prussia. The map is based on the geographical works of the renowned German cartographer Heinrich Zell (Henricus Zellius) from 1542. This particular version was engraved by Matthias Quad and published in Cologne by Johann Bussemacher around 1594 in his *Atlas Fasciculus geographicus complectens praecipuarum totius orbis...* The map is oriented towards the east. It depicts historical Prussia (East Prussia and West Prussia), including the course of the Vistula, the Baltic Sea coast and neighbouring regions such as Pomerania and Poland. On the left-hand side is a striking, decorative scrollwork cartouche bearing a Latin dedication to the Gdańsk citizen Johann Clur (D. Joanni Clur, Civi Gedanensi) Sheet size 27 x 37 cm with Latin text verso, on handmade paper with a watermark Condition Browned and water-stained, with a small hole in the bottom edge (outside the illustration)
