日本の素朴な平茶碗 – 伊賀風の茶碗 – 署名入り共箱 - Ceramic - Japan - 20th century

This powerful Japanese hira chawan (flat tea bowl) embodies the rustic spirit and earthy beauty associated with traditional Iga-style tea ceramics. The bowl features a wide and gently expanding form with a low profile characteristic of summer tea bowls used in Japanese tea ceremony. Its surface displays rich natural textures, warm iron-toned clay, and flowing pale ash glaze effects that move organically across the rim and body. The contrast between the rough, fire-marked clay and the soft grey-white glaze creates a striking landscape-like appearance. The glaze gathers and breaks naturally along the edges, producing irregular transitions highly appreciated in Japanese tea aesthetics. The interior reveals a warm, softly textured clay surface with subtle kiln variations and firing marks that give the bowl a deeply handmade and atmospheric presence. Its form is intentionally uneven and expressive, allowing the chawan to feel alive in the hands. The foot and underside show strong firing character and natural kiln effects that enhance the wabi-sabi atmosphere of the piece. The tea bowl comes together with its original signed tomobako wooden storage box inscribed: “Iraku Hira Chawan” (Rustic Flat Tea Bowl). An expressive and highly atmospheric Japanese tea bowl suitable for collectors of tea ceremony utensils, wabi-sabi ceramics, and rustic Japanese pottery. Condition: Good vintage condition with no cracks or restorations observed. Natural firing marks, glaze irregularities, and kiln effects are part of the artistic process and aesthetic character of the work. Dimensions: Diameter: approx. 15 cm Height: approx. 6 cm The item will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
