Aloalo heiliges Zebu Rare Objects - フィギュア - Mahafaly - Madagascar

This is a grave marker known as an “Aloalo” by the Mahafaly people of southern Madagascar. It is a precious artifact featuring the “Zebu” as its motif. The zebu is the foundation of the southern herders way of life and is believed to be the seat of spirits and the souls of ancestors (Razana). It was discovered around 1958 in the Ampanihy region near Toliara. The base still bears traces of where it was severed from the column. Although this zebu totem is very old, both horns remain intact. This is rare for such figures, as they often weather quickly, suffer damage from birds, or break during transport. The right ear is broken, and the horns appear to have been repaired in the 1970s following damage sustained during transport. It is made of hardwood and shows signs of weathering and lichen growth. Exposure to Madagascar’s dry climate has created a unique texture. These authentic Aloalo are artistically rare and highly collectible tribal items from Madagascar. Madagascar Kopfteil einer AloAlo, heiliges Zebu, approximately h24 x w15 x d9 cm. Region Ampanihy bei Toliara, ca. Around 1958, in situ
