古典的なローマ製テラコッタのウンゲンタリウムで、球形ボディ、細長い筒状のネック、わずかに広がる縁を備えています。この種の容器は、香水・香油・化粧品・薬用薬剤の保存・就管にローマ世界中で広く用いられました。優雅でありながら実用的な形は、家庭生活・宗教的慣習・葬祭の場面において一般的な存在となる理由です。
本品は、長い時を経て埋蔵された何世紀にもわたる自然な経年劣化と魅力的な考古学的表面の堆積を備え、均整のとれたプロファイルを示します。宝物として専門家による修復が施され、古代陶器の復元に見られる修復線が見えるものの、総体的な外観は非常に本物らしく、ローマ期の陶器生産を代表するものです。素朴な形と調和のとれた比率は、ローマの実用的陶器に特徴的な実用性と洗練を体現しています。
