An Islamic Terracotta Oil Lamp, Crusader Period, 11th to 13th Century AD Fine terracotta oil lamp of elongated form, featuring a rounded reservoir, broad filling neck, and extended pointed nozzle. The vessel is covered with an attractive blue-green glaze, displaying extensive age-related wear, burial encrustations, and areas of glaze loss that reveal the underlying earthenware body. Lamps of this type were widely used throughout the Levant and Eastern Mediterranean during the period of the Crusades, serving as essential sources of domestic and religious illumination. The surviving glaze provides an excellent testimony to the advanced ceramic traditions of the medieval Islamic world, while the elegant proportions and well-preserved form make this a highly decorative and historically significant example of Islamic pottery from the High Middle Ages.
