中世イスラム(Signet)リング – イスラム文化 – 西暦10世紀〜13世紀
鋳 Bronze の刻印リングは、角形のベゼルに大胆な幾何学的構成を刻印し、スタイライズされたクーフィー文字を思わせる。出っ張ったラインと窪んだ帯の角ばった配置は、中世イスラム美術の装飾伝統に特徴的で、抽象的・碑文的モチーフが figurative imagery に取って代わることがしばしばあった。こうしたリングは個人的な装飾品として、場合によっては所有権・事務管理・社会的地位と結びつくseal（印章）として用いられてきた。
指輪は広い hoop（輪）と重量感のあるベゼルを備え、サイズの割には堂々とした外観を呈する。表面には魅力的な dark patina（暗い錆色）と鉱物の付着・風化による経年の痕が見られ、相応の antiquity（古さ）を示す。刻まれたデザインははっきりと視認でき、作品の強い視覚的特徴に寄与している。
