A rare and attractive example of a crescent-shaped amuletic pendant from the Late Roman–Early Medieval cultural sphere.
Culture: Late Roman / Early Medieval
Material: Bronze (copper alloy)
Date: Circa 4th–10th century AD
Dimensions: 30 mm × 27 mm
Condition: Good archaeological condition with stable green patina; wear and corrosion commensurate with age.
A fine bronze lunula (crescent-shaped) amulet pendant dating to the Late Roman or Early Medieval period. The pendant features a crescent-shaped body with an integral suspension loop and a central projecting element within the openwork design. The surface displays an attractive green archaeological patina, consistent with long-term burial.
Lunula amulets were widely worn during the Late Roman, Byzantine, and Early Medieval periods. They are traditionally associated with protective, celestial, and fertility symbolism and were worn as personal ornaments or talismans.
The present example is cast in bronze and remains in good excavated condition, preserving its original form and suspension loop. The object exhibits expected age-related wear, minor losses, and surface corrosion consistent with its antiquity.
