ヘルメスのローマ青銅小像 ローマ帝国、紀元1世紀〜3世紀
ローマ神話の使徒神ヘルメスを精巧に鋳造した青銅の小像。裸体の姿でリラックスした対蹠姿勢を取り、翼の属性の名残と旅・商業・交信・幸運に結びつく特徴的な象徴性が識別できます。ローマ帝国全域でヘルメスの小像は人気があり、家庭の shrine（聖域）や別荘、商業空間に保護・吉兆の像として置かれていました。彫像は調和のとれた古典的なプロポーション、はっきりとした解剖学的造形、そして鑑賞的な古代の緑褐色の錆色のパティーナを有し、その考古学的な趣を高め、ローマの信仰用および装飾用ブロンズ作品の魅力的な例となっています。
