タイノ・ブラック・ディオライト・アイドル（ゼミ） – 西暦10世紀〜15世紀
10世紀から15世紀にかけての、細密に彫刻されたタイノの石像アイドル（ゼミ）。密度の高い黒色石、推定ディオライトから成形され、Taínoの精神美術の特徴的な象徴を示す。大ぶりな円形の目、目立つ開口部の口、デフォルメされた耳、前面と裏面の両方を覆う幾何学的モチーフが慎重に彫刻されている。構図は人間と超自然的特徴を組み合わせ、Greater Antilles全域で祖先と神聖な力の化身として儀式的ゼミに用いられた特徴を持つ。
精巧な直線装飾、左右対称のデザイン、そして高度に磨き上げられた表面は、卓越した鉛筆技術を示すと同時に、タイノ社会におけるこの種の物品が果たして重要な儀礼的役割を果たしていたことを反映している。視覚的な強い存在感と広範囲に刻まれた装飾で distinguishingされる、前 Columbian期カリブ海地域の石彫の卓越した例。
