Taíno Black Diorite Idol (Zemí) – 10th to 15th Century AD A finely carved Taíno stone idol (zemí) dating to the 10th to 15th Century AD. Executed from a dense black stone, likely diorite, the figure displays the distinctive iconography of Taíno spiritual art with oversized circular eyes, a prominent open mouth, stylized ears, and carefully engraved geometric motifs covering both the front and reverse. The composition combines anthropomorphic and supernatural features characteristic of ceremonial zemís used throughout the Greater Antilles as embodiments of ancestral and divine forces. An exceptional example of pre-Columbian Caribbean stone carving distinguished by its strong visual presence and extensive engraved ornamentation. Material: Black Diorite (likely) Dimensions: Height 22 cm Provenance: German private collection, acquired in Germany in the 1980s. All items come with CoA
