Beautifully patinated Bronze ”Baroque” figure of cupid after Barthelemy Prieur (French, 1540-1611) Late 18th Century to early 19th Century. Cupid shoots with a bow and wears a quiver slung with a strap over his left shoulder and wears a fig leaf, supported on a cast and tuned bronze base. Figure including base 112.5m high. Figure excluding base 11 cm high. In 1591 Barthelemy Prieur he was appointed sculptor to kKng by Henry IV, of France His famous bronze bust of Henry IV and Mary of Medici (around 1600) is at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
