Ming Dynasty Ko-Sometsuke Kraak Dish with Peony and Coin Motifs China, late Ming dynasty, Tianqi period A expressively painted Ko-Sometsuke Kraak porcelain dish, decorated in reverse style with a central peony blossom amongst scrolling vines, surrounded by four pairs of coin motifs symbolising wealth and prosperity. The broad rim is further enriched with continuous scrolling floral decoration, also executed in reverse painting technique. The reverse is decorated with the typical Lingzhi fungus motifs, frequently found on Ko-Sometsuke porcelain of the late Ming period. The combination of expressive brushwork, balanced composition, and deep cobalt tones reflects the aesthetic appreciated within the Japanese tea ceremony tradition. A very similar example is recorded in the Butler Collection, Inv. No. 1270. Dimensions: W 21 × H 3.2 cm Condition: In very good condition, with only minor wear and scratches consistent with age. The foot rim retains typical kiln grit adhered from firing. Checked under strong UV light for defects. Please refer to the images for the definitive and binding description of the item’s condition.
