Taíno 形象崇拝の偶像 – ドミニカ共和国 – 西暦10世紀〜15世紀
Dark polished serpentine から丁寧に彫刻された Taíno の人形的偶像は、グレータ・アンティル諸島の儀礼美術に特徴的な、 stylized な特徴を示します。像は大きな頭部と顕著な円形の目、三角形の鼻、そして慎重に表現された口元を備え、Taíno の石彫り伝統に特有の高度に幾何学的な趣向で仕上げられています。顔を取り囲む広い側方突起は、儀礼的装飾あるいは祖霊・霊的存在に結びつく象徴的属性を表していると考えられます。
コンパクトな身体は、自然主義的な表現よりも象徴的な表情を強調した、上品で簡潔な表現で描かれています。頭部、四肢、下半身には刻まれた直線的モチーフが飾られ、滑らかで磨き上げられた表面は石材の質と職人の技量を際立たせます。この種の小型偶像は、Taíno 社会における重要な儀式的道具であり、ヨーロッパ人の接触以前にカリブ海全域で花開いた高度な石彫技法を反映しています。
